The Journey began in 2001…
My son Tanner was nearly two years old. He had changed from a happy-go-lucky talkative boy to a sullen child that I didn’t understand. At the time I didn’t fully realize how closely his condition was connected to the shot he hadn’t fully recovered from only a few months before…
- In 1984, one out of every 150,000 children being born was being diagnosed with a form of Autism.
- In 1994 one out of every 10,000 children being born was being diagnosed with a form of Autism.
- In 2004, one out of every 150 children being born was being diagnosed with a form of Autism.
- TODAY, 2009, I have learned that estimates are higher than one out of 60! And, that’s not all!
It is estimated that one out of every 6 (yes, SIX) children today has a Neurodevelopmental disorder.
According to Wikipedia: Neurodevelopmental disorders include autism and autism spectrum disorders, traumatic brain injury (including congenital injuries such as those which cause cerebral palsy), communication, speech and language disorders, genetic disorders such as fragile-X syndrome, Down syndrome and Rett syndrome, epilepsy, fetal alcohol syndrome, learning disorders, neurological and psychiatric disorders.[8] Neurodevelopmental disorders are associated with widely varying degrees of mental, emotional, physical and economic burden to individuals, families and society in general.
I took my son to doctor after doctor (18 total) who (mostly) wanted me to consent to giving my son drugs that would change his behavior but, ultimately, change the development of his brain also. This was not an answer I was willing to consider.
Research became second nature; to the point that every moment that I could spare or create was spent digging deeper and deeper into the mystifying crevasse that people with multiple forms of Autism seemed to fall into.
Toxins in our world and in our bodies seemed to be concealed by tragic mis-information. Genetic toxins, medical toxins and environmental toxins are all taking our children away from us and it is beyond frightening – it is a real life nightmare!
After several years and 1000’s of hours of logged research I began to see the results of our efforts. I say “our” because my son was and still is the strength behind our journey. He has endured more than any one person should have to endure and he has done it all mostly with an accepting attitude.
When I first began to research all I wanted was to bring my son back home but the more I learned the more I had to share. Before I knew it I was sharing the games that I had created that helped him to talk again and the book writing program that taught him to write his first real book at five. Teaching children to write became a mission that has now reached over 5,000 children!
When their parents needed to know more my Autism Awareness: From Suspicion to Success program was developed. Teaching others what I have learned is the only way to fully appreciate this journey that I’m on. My next book, The Journey, Brining my Son Back Home from Autism (tentative title) will be available soon.
Thank you for joining me. I welcome your thoughts and comments and would love to hear more about your own journey!
