Tanner, Oliver and their friends were all busy playing Tag on Sunday night. Due to a series of misfortunes Tanner fell from the jungle gym and sustained a buckle fracture in his left wrist. Both bones were obviously bent, clearly revealed in the X-rays. Thankfully, they were not broken.
The result: serious pain and permission to miss school. Pain medications, elevating his arm and ice packs have all helped with the pain. School work has been another task that we have successfully dealt with as well.
Right after breakfast Tanner begins work on his spelling page for the day while I take Oliver to school. As soon as he finishes the page we read for about an hour. We finished The Secrets of Droon, From the Ice Caves of Krog yesterday. This is a delightful book that he started on Friday night. We take turns where he reads until he is ready for a break (at least three pages) and then I read up to three pages. It’s then his turn again.
After reading he takes a little break while I get some work done. Next, it’s usually time for him to have a snack and then we’re on to math. Thankfully, he loves math and is really good at it. Because he truly wasn’t able to do much of anything on Monday and very little on Tuesday we worked hard to catch up yesterday and today will be a continuation of the same.
Tomorrow he will go back to school – caught up and ready to learn more! The key for us has been to to spread things out and include plenty of breaks.

I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
Ah…. poor Tanner – he’s such a great boy. Hang in there buddy!
Please, keep up the greet work and continue to post topics like this. I am old fan of your blog!
This is a great article. My son John is very much like your son Tanner. You talked to his class and made quite the impression. Thank you for your efforts.
